Post-doc position in “Structural Mechanics”

Project abstract: The coupling between mechanical structures and piezoelectric patches has been largely exploited in the last decades e.g., for vibration control and energy harvesting purposes, but mostly limited to linear formulations. This is because one of the features of the
classical piezoceramics is their brittle mechanical behavior, strongly limiting their applications, as they may experience small displacement gradients only.

An emerging generation of piezoelectric patches has been developed based on a Macro-Fiber Composite (MFC) configuration. They can provide extreme flexibility combined with high actuation efficiency in geometrically nonlinear elastic field.

In the framework of the NIHFAS project, an international project of CARNOT ingénierie @Lyon, we seek for a postdoctoral researcher. The aims are controlling and harvesting vibratory energy of structures by exploiting nonlinear interactions and effects. Therefore, the project has the purpose of characterizing the electro-mechanical behavior of regular structures like beams, with embedded MFC-type piezoelectric patches in nonlinear domains.

It gathers teams from three different European countries, namely LTDS Lab site ENTPE (France), University of L’Aquila (Italy) and TU Lublin (Poland). The project, contains analytical, numerical and experimental phases.

Profile of the candidate: The candidate must hold a PhD title in Aerospace or Civil or Mechanical Engineering with skills in the domain of nonlinear dynamics.

Location: The main working place will be LTDS Lab site ENTPE, Lyon (France). The experimental phase of the project will be carried out in TU Lublin (Poland). There will be possibility of organizing some meetings in presence in each of three universities.
