2026 Jacob Wallenberg Foundation Scientific Prize

Juliette Cayer-Barrioz is a Research Director at the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) at the Laboratoire de Tribologie et Dynamique des Systèmes (LTDS), École Centrale de Lyon. Since 2005, she has been developing her research activities on understanding lubrication mechanisms and reducing friction by integrating surface phenomena.

While fundamental, Juliette Cayer-Barrioz’s research has applications in numerous fields, particularly in controlling friction in lubricated contacts (aiding in the formulation of environmentally friendly water-based lubricants, reducing friction to support more sustainable mobility, improving tire grip on road surfaces in rain or ice, etc.).

This work was recognized in 2026 with the “Jacob Wallenberg Foundation Scientific Prize,” awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) with the support of the SKF Group.
