The LTDS shows its scientific anchorage through :
  • multidisciplinary research mainly in solid mechanics, materials chemistry and physics ;
  • development of cutting edge experimentation mainly in solid mechanics, materials chemistry and physics ;
  • a constant opening towards the scientific community and the socio-economic world.
The laboratory brings together research activities focused on the following axes :
 
  • Tribology : the study of friction, wear, lubrication, adherence ;
  • System dynamics  : the science of vibrations, system and mechanical device stability ;
  • Heterogeneous environment and process mechanics :  : soil, geomaterial, particulate medium and biological system behaviour, and transformation process modelling.
 
Its expertise is recognized in the following fields : 
 
  • Tribology and vibro-acoustics of textured surfaces ;
  •  Surface engineering in tribology ;
  •  Mechano-chemistry of super sliding layers ;
  •  Numerical modelling of surfaces and interfaces ;
  • Tool/matter interactions ;
  • Complex structure material vibro-acoustics ;
  • Robust design and reliability of complex systems ;
  • Fretting damage and durability of composite materials ;
  • Structure dynamics.
 
Furthermore, the LTDS strengthens its traditional topics as regards to :
